Back to the computer…

Hello!
It’s been a while but I’ve been busy. Work, writing, family, it’s tough trying to get it all done.
Lately I’ve been working on research for Lissa & James’ story and it’s fascinating. I love the time period and James is such a great guy, can’t wait to see how it all works out.
Lissa is proving to be a strong and courageous woman, she’s a perfect match for James. Together they’re creating a wonderful story that I’m loving.
Hope to have more soon, the writing has been slow because of the plotting.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend and remember to spend some time with your family

Writers’ workshops

I just attended Heather Graham’s workshop that was held in the French Quarter this weekend. It was also Decadence Festival so that made for an interesting weekend. Along with having to worry about Tropical Storm Lee, it’s been a busy weekend.
Heather always puts on a great conference and I learn so much, now to utilize what I’ve learned and finish this book. It’s looking promising.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Summer, glorious summer

Yes it’s summer and the constant high temps won’t let us forget it. I’m not complaining though, I love summer. I love the long days, being able to wear sandles everyday, not having to carry a coat or jacket… it’s just the best time of the year.
Unfortunately, it’s just as busy as the rest of the year. I was hoping to be able to get more writing time but now we have to clean out the house. I usually go through all the closets, dressers, and cabinets and toss out what we don’t need and now’s the time to do it.
I’m still working on Lissa and James’ story and I really love the ways it’s all coming together. They’re a great couple who went through some tough times and now have to deal with their enemies while learning to trust each other again. Not easy when everyone keeps lying to them.
Anyway, they’re lots of fun and I can’t wait to get enough written for my critique partner to read. I love getting feedback on my work, even the bad stuff LOL
Now on to the serious stuff. For those that might not have heard, author L.A. Banks is seriously ill with adrenal cancer. Many of us in the romance community are banding together to help her and her family during this difficult time. Barbara Vey has posted a letter on her blog, from Michaela Basham, about upcoming charity auctions to help raise money for the family’s rising medical expenses. Please read the blog post and consider helping if you can. Leslie is a wonderful writer who has given us many wonderful books, let’s give back to her. I will be donating to the auction so keep an eye out if you’re interested.

It’s Summer!

Well, it’s technically spring but here in New Orleans, the temps have already hit the high 80s and I’m loving it. Hubby & I rode the bikes to a festival last weekend, and it was wonderful. Great ride, great food, great music, a perfect weekend.

I’ve started on a new manuscript. This one is what I call a typical historical. I love historical romance. They were the first books I read for enjoyment. Mom used to give me her’s to read, at least the ones without all the sex because I was 12, and I loved them. Then I found “the good ones”… yep, the ones with the sex scenes that she didn’t want me to read. When she realized I found them she decided to let me read whatever I wanted (I was 13 after all LOL).

So now I’m writing an historical. It’s not giving me as many problems as the paranormal I was working on so that’s great. I really love this couple and their story. They go through some tough times and have a lot to overcome before they can admit their love but they survive and, of course, have that eternally sought after HEA.

Until next time, enjoy the warmer weather and spend some time with those you love.

Life changes

Well my daughter has moved out and into her 1st place. My older son is leaving next week for college. My youngest is starting high school next year. Life changes fast and no matter how much you believe you are ready for it, you’re not. My husband & I are going from 3 kids to 1 within a month’s time and it’s the strangest thing to me. To know that they won’t be home for a while, if at all. I’ve had times when they were gone to camp for a week or 2 but I always knew they would be home. Now it’s different. On the positive side, hubby and I will be able to take off for weekends on the bikes now and we’re looking forward to that. But I’m a typical mom so I’m going to constantly worry about them for probably the 1st 6 months. Then I’ll only worry every other day LMAO. Well, it’s a new chapter in our lives so here’s to new beginnings!

Also a reminder that Brenda Novak’s auction will be ending soon so make sure you get your bids in. There are some awesome items available.

Brenda Novak Auction

You might have noticed the link on the sidebar for Brenda Novak’s Auction. She started the auction about 5 years ago and has raised over $700,000. To quote Brenda, “I run this fundraiser in honor of my youngest son, who was diagnosed with Type 1 at five years old, and the millions of others who suffer from diabetes. The proceeds have one purpose—to help find a cure—and will go to the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami.”

It started Saturday and will run for 4 weeks so there is still plenty of time to bid. There are many different things people have donated, from Advanced Reader Copies of books (ARCs) to jewelry, to vacations and cruises; meetings or mentorships with authors; reads and critiques by agents, editors and authors; computers, i-pods, website design. You have to see the incredible things people have offered up for this great cause.

So if you have a few minutes, please check out the aution and consider bidding, or donating.

New Releases

A few friends of mine have recently had new releases within the last couple of months so I thought I’d share their work with you. First is Diana Rowland’s latest in her demon series, Blood of the Demon. This is her second book and has been just as successful as her 1st, Mark of the Demon. “Mark of the Demon is a nifty combination of police procedural and urban fantasy.” I love her demons and I’m firmly entrenched in Rhyzkahl’s camp. Let me know if you agree.

Another friend with a new release is Hailey Edwards. Hailey’s e-book, Everlong was released March 30 from Samhain Publishing. It’s a wonderfully sweet love story with demons learning to love and trying to survive to make better lives for themselves.

Next is Dawn Chartier. Dawn’s first book Not An Angel is scheduled for release on May 12 with The Wild Rose Press and is the story of a vampire and the human woman he loves, but shouldn’t.  Dawn has been a great help to me with my own writing and keeps me motivated and I’m very excited for her.

I recommend all of these books as they are great stories from awesome writers. Check them out and let me know how you like them.

Hi and Welcome!

Well, I’ve done it and started a blog. It’s probably nothing special to most of you but to me it’s the beginning of “time to get serious”. You see, I’ve been writing for about a year now but I would do some writing, go to some conferences, take some on-line classes and it was all fun. No stress, no pressure, no deadlines… Now it’s time to get serious and set some goals for myself. The 1st of them being FINISH THE WIP!  I’ve been working on the same story for over a year now, using is as a learning piece. Everytime I learn something pertaining to the craft of writing, I’d go back and revise, re-work and edit what I’ve already written. Time to move forward and complete the story. My hero & heroine are tired of just sitting there telling me what happens without me putting it on paper. So goal #1 is to finsh the story. Deadline to finish? July 23, 2010. Before I go to RWA Nationals.

Goal #2, pitch the finished WIP at Nationals. I know this story won’t get requested, published or anything like that but just pitching it would be another step in the learning process. And who knows, maybe by the time I’m finished, it could be half-way decent.

I’m going to use this blog as a way for me to share what I’ve learned so far, learn from you, and get some help in keeping my butt in the writer’s chair. So here’s to getting serious about writing and enjoying the experience.

C’est tout!
